Now it is feared that thousands of people may be unable to use electric light in their own homes, visit family and friends, or have access to employment and public services if the government's plan to phase out the normal variety of incandescent lighting goes ahead without exemptions.
The warning has been issued by Spectrum, an alliance of charities working with people with light sensitive conditions, and the British Association of Dermatologists.
It comes after the Migraine Action Association warned the energy-saving light bulbs could trigger migraines.
The government wants to phase out traditional, incandescent bulbs by 2011 but no allowances have been made for people suffering from light sensitive conditions who often suffer severe and painful reactions to fluorescent lighting and other forms of non-incandescent lighting.
How mean-spirited. The global-warming/climate change extremists could apparently care less. What do we expect from a harebrained socialist plot based on a massive conspiracy to spread a Big Lie?
'Photosensitive eruptions range from disabling eczema-like reactions, to light sensitivities that can lead to skin cancer. It is essential that such patients are able to protect themselves from specific wavelengths of light emitted by fluorescent bulbs, especially as they are often trapped indoors because they can't venture out in natural sunlight.'
If we're to be as scrupulously careful as possible with peoples' allegies to, say, peanuts, and provide safe alternatives, then why force sensitive persons (hundreds of thousands of them in America alone) to suffer from frequently unavoidable exposure to fluorescent lighting?
Why take away, by law, as has the Democrat-majority U.S. Congress, safe lighting technology? If this isn't uncaring and mean-spirited...
The global-warming extremists don't care how some people will suffer from their extremism, apparently. Pretty much the only ideas they've come up with include lightbulbs that contain mercury, can catch on fire, and even may cause skin cancer!
Like I saw, the international socialists don't care about people; they care about ideology only.
CF lightbulbs have 6-8 milligrams of mercury each. Recommended that if one breaks, all must leave the room immediately for at least 15 minutes.
The debris should not be removed with a vacuum cleaner, which could put toxic dust into the air, but with rubber gloves. The broken glass and all residue is to be placed into a sealed plastic bag and taken to a local official recycling site for proper disposal.
Geez... isn't that inconvenient? How many people will take the time, expend the effort, go to the trouble? I know for a fact that many folks are too ignorant, too cavalierly uncaring... as long as the mainstream media and the government doesn't warn them that these compact fluorescent bulbs are dangerous, toxic, even cancer-causing, they'll not care. That's their mentality... I know this for certain 100%, as I know far too many folks like this and have no doubt whatsoever that this is their current automatic mentality. They'll place themselves and others at risk, believing that all's well, as the state apparatus has actually told them to do this! Never mind the memories of phenylpropanolamine, asbestos, leaded gasoline, you name it- all those things once declared by the state apparatus as safe, later to be banned as unsafe...
"It is possible that the mercury could be released into the air or from land-fill when they are released into the wider environment. That is a concern, because mercury is a well-known toxic substance."
The Environmental Agency noted that neither warnings about the bulbs' toxicity nor directions for proper disposal is printed on any packaging.
Although it's said that breaking one bulb isn't necessarily hazardous in and of itself, it is noted that mercury poisoning is an accumulative thing. Breaking bulb after bulb over the years and being exposed to the released mercury can indeed lead to toxicity, and it particularly affects the brain.
Plus, proper disposal of these stupid things is very, very expensive (meaning higher taxes, or having taxes go into this rather than into things like national defence, education, healthcare, etc... someone will have to pay for it, unless there's not going to be any "proper recycling" at all, due to the cavalier uncaringness of the state apparatus, which is charged with protecting the people and isn't supposed to say "how high" when environmental extremists and scaremongerers say "jump"!):
The most-immediate hazard from the CFL bulbs may be to Brits' pocketbooks. It costs about $1,300 to properly dispose of one municipal recycling bin full of bulbs – a figure that is sure to increase residents' tax bills.
Talk about government being stupid and falling victim to the irresponsible, greedy scaremongering of the likes of Al Gore. Talk about implementing ill-advised laws in the short run, only to eventually have to repeal them due to findings that the laws are causing people and the environment real harm!
