Nothing To See Here

 "Silver-grey, big-as-an-18-wheeler:
A 9000-km-in-range new M51 test-fired from the French sub le Terrible?

Non-story here.   Shhh!  We're not supposed to know anything.  But that's ok, I think, in this case...

Hmm.  Probably just testing of nuclear-capable new ICBMs/cruise missiles.  Y'know, it's the whole Mutually-Assured-Destruction concept at work, most likely.   Absolutely we've got to continue to practice the doctrine of M.A.D. to remind the Axis of Evil that we sure as shee-it ain't no sitting ducks!
"The firing was completed by the [Direction Générale pour l'Armement], Jan. 27, 2010 at 9:27 a.m. from the Bay of Audierne, Finisterre, from the submarine Le Terrible," the ministry said in a statement. The launch went as planned, the ministry said.

(...)

"This test marks an important step in the modernization and adaptation of France's deterrence within the strict respect of its international engagements," the ministry said.

The M51 is due to enter service this year on Le Terrible, the last of the four new-generation ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) of the Le Triomphant class in the French Navy's strategic oceanic force.
The M51 has a range of 9,000 kilometers, half again more than the M45 weapon it replaces.
Besides, the Axis has itself been testing newer and newer missile tech, including nuclear-capable.  Let's see, for example, there's, of course, New Soviet Putinistan (Russia) and there's Iran... no doubt the SinoCommies are up to the same, too.

Ah.  French submarines.  Yep, they'll be carrying the M51.

No cold war anymore, really?  Well, dunno 'bout you, but I do feel a little chilly...

Just punditin' around, eh!

Oh!  And here's a cool video of the M51...

And, via a DEW Line station somewhere...

"Hey, what's that?  It looks like a big..."

Hey, Putin, Ahmadinejad, Little Kim, Chavez and Hu...  How'd you guys like one of those up yer...?
