Climatologist May Be Fired For Dissent on Climate Change

I suspected as much.

Today I wrote this in the comments in response to "Canuckguy".

I suggest that scientists are being pressured to "agree" that climate change is caused by man. I suggest that they're being coerced to toe an official line, else perhaps risk future career difficulty or unemployment as retaliation for going against their "community" or professional associations. They don't want to be ostracized, blacklisted or anything like that. Their profession is their livelihood. It's entirely possible that many would rather either toe the line or quietly abstain from having an open opinion than go against the prevailing "political correctness" required of them.

Well, guess what? Lo and behold, I have stumbled upon evidence that lends itself to my open musings.

Read about it here.

Now we see that the State of Oregon is requiring a climatologist to toe the line on the government's "official" policy on climate change as a condition of employment. Rather heavy-handed, isn't it? Sounds far more political than scientific, doesn't it? Smacks of dogmatism, of political correctness, of authoritarianism.

In the face of evidence agreed upon by hundreds of climate scientists, George Taylor holds firm. He does not believe human activities are the main cause of global climate change.

Taylor also holds a unique title: State Climatologist.

They want to take away his title just because he refuses to think what he's told to think and say what he's told to say. He says:

“Most of the climate changes we have seen up until now have been a result of natural variations,”

Well, he's the State Climatologist. But the politicians don't want to hear what he has to say. They want a yes-man instead, someone to parrot the party line. Just as I suspected.

Apparently there's only one valid scientific opinion on "climate change": the politically correct one!

I wonder how many scientists like Mr. Taylor have a contrary opinion, as he does, but have nevertheless submitted to the "consensus" position rather than place their livelihoods at risk.

Mr. Taylor is one who dared to think for himself, to stand up and speak his mind.

And now it appears that the state apparatus who imposes the whole "climate change" thing will seek to punish him for his courageous outspokenness.

Hmm... reminds me of Christopher Columbus daring to assert his reasonable (and true) belief that the earth is round, not flat as was believed by his contemporaries prior to his famous voyage of 1492.

Myself, I'm not convinced that man is responsible for climate change, at least not to any substantial degree, notwitstanding a bunch of sheeplike scientists voicing their obedient concurrence with a position that could very well be more political than scientific.

Indeed, it could be one helluva clever ploy by environmentalists to effectively force, via political/electoral pressure, governments to "take action", whatever that "action" may be.

So I beg to differ; I prefer to wait until I see reasonable evidence. One thing is for certain: man didn't cause, nor end, the Ice Age, the most famous example of climate change of all. And I really don't see man causing anything remotely approaching a change of such a magnitude. It simply isn't plausible, probable, credible... I'm just shaking my head here... it's sad that so many "scientists" would sell out their integrity and lend themselves to a big lie just for the sake of job security or whatever.

Hey... if all that's required of a "State Climatologist" is to simply say whatever the government tells him to say, then anyone can be one! Any idiot at all! Just go and grab somebody off the street and ask them if they want to make $100,000 a year to just stand around repeating what they've been told! No need to know anything at all about climatology! Hell, no- we see from this case that relevant expertise is irrelevant!

Look, just go along with this thing... because you're told! Don't question us or we'll look at you like you're crazy or stupid and belong in a straitjacket or something!
