Vlad Putin, Russian dictator, practicing his shooting skills at Russian GRU (military intelligence) headquarters
Russia escalated its war of words with Europe yesterday when Sergei Ivanov, the first deputy prime minister, threatened to deploy missiles in the Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad, which borders Poland and Lithuania.Mr Ivanov, a Kremlin hawk seen as President Vladimir Putin's favoured successor, said this would become necessary if the United States rejected Russia's proposal for the location of a missile defence shield. The United States wants to build a radar station in the Czech Republic to guide interceptor missiles based in Poland. The Bush administration says this purely defensive system would do nothing more than shoot down any missile launched from a rogue state, probably Iran. But Russia opposes locating the shield in Poland or the Czech Republic. Both countries were Soviet satellite states during the Cold War and Moscow bitterly resents their accession to Nato and the EU.
Hmm... one might wonder whether Russia has long-term ambitions to once again seize Eastern European nations and rebuild the old Evil Empire. I doubt that Russia fears any offensive moves from NATO. Of course Russia knows that NATO is a defensive organization, so Russia's protestation of NATO's defensive infrastructure plans is quite dubious.
Heh- the Russians want NATO's missile defence system to be installed, for sure... as long as it's inside Russian territory! How stupid does the Pu think we are?
The Red Russkies just keep on making the case on their own that they're not to be trusted. If they won't trust us, we cannot trust them. It's a two-way street.
Looks like we're back to the concept of no-first-strike and mutually-assured-destruction... at least the Russkies understand these concepts, unlike their underling pawns/proxies the Islamic jihadists and their state hosts such as Iran and Syria, both long under the influence of Russia, who pretty much got them started with the whole terrorism thing in the first place!
Why, that Vlad, that stinking little piece of Pu... Why can't he be nice... and actually mean it? Giving flowers to the Bush ladies the other day... and then turning around and having his successor threaten Poland with missiles? What did Poland even do to Russia, other than resist tyranny?
