Sinai Attack: That Almost Felt Personal

Story here.

Two days after a deadly resort bombing, suicide attackers targeted international peacekeepers and police Wednesday in the Sinai, a barren expanse where Bedouin tribesmen eke out a meagre existence and tourists luxuriate in seaside hotels.

(...)

The largely impoverished region has become fertile ground for terrorists, who have hit the Multinational Force and Observer peacekeepers twice in less than a year, both times after larger and bloodier attacks on Sinai resorts.

That attack almost felt personal for me.

Years ago, one of my two brothers, both of whom are in the Canadian Forces, was stationed there, with the Canadian Contingent of the MFO.

So for me, that particular jihadist attack has had a psychological impact. My brother could've been there today but fortunately wasn't.

Further, while that is in the Middle East, there's practically nothing preventing jihadist attacks of various kinds anywhere in the Free World. It could very well happen to anyone the next time one goes to the mall or to Tim Horton's...

Think about that. It's that close. It's not "something that only happens to other people". Don't forget: the jihadists are everywhere; they literally walk among us. Including the Khadr family, who have openly declared their allegiance to Al Qaeda. I cannot believe they're free and unfettered. In Canada. Why, this family is so notorious, the late patriarch actually knew UBL. And one of the sons is currently in Gitmo, if I recall correctly. Another was recently extradited to the U.S. to face terrorism charges. The remaining family members are openly jihadist in philosophy. If only there were a law making it a serious crime to be an avowed jihadist... surely it's logical and in the public interest to remove known jihadists from society? After all, it is a crime to utter death threats...

What's it going to take? How many more innocent people have to die before society understands the nature of the threat? It's insane and illogical to permit the freedom of anyone who is avowed to hate and to kill... just as it is to free anyone who is considered a danger to the public... like Karla Homolka, who has been freed ridiculously early from her club fed digs, wholly without condition, without restriction. If she commits another sex slaying of a young person... the left will have a lot of explaining to do, as they will should a known jihadist currently free go on to commit an act of jihad, killing anyone.
