I've been asked many times what I mean when I say "leftist".
Well, I've just, in responding to a commentor in discussing what "left" and "right" are supposed to mean, more or less articulated what I have in mind when I say "leftist".
Excerpted from my comment:
I personally believe that the test of "leftist" or "rightist" is more in terms of one's way of thinking, one's approach, how one gathers observations of the real world, stores/arranges them in the grey matter. If one doesn't do very well in this, and consistently fails to understand the world around them, instead allowing themselves to be influenced by the MSM (mainstream media), their peers, rather than thinking for themselves and being realistic, logical... and caring about the importance and imperativeness of the distinction between right/wrong, moral/immoral, ethical/unethical, then they're "leftist". The opposite is "rightist".
Of course, those are just two extreme ends of the line we think of as the "spectrum". Everyone at any given point in time can be seen as being in one spot along it and in another later on, depending on their thinking, their approach to seeing and interpreting the real world and what's happening/what's been happening in it.
When I was younger, I understood the reality of the world less and less than I do now, because I had observed less and less the younger I was. Over time, my observations built up into clearly identifiable patterns which better demonstrated reality to me. Also, over time, these observations did sometimes demonstrate to me that what I'd previously believed to be true (usually because I'd been told so by others) actually wasn't.
I've noticed that there are many, many folks who apparently don't see the world as I've come to see it, which is based on observation over time and on being objective about what I've observed, who demonstrate a failure to use their brains, not only in observing such things as politics, but also in everything in everyday life. I'm not making this up to be anti-Leftist- this is a conclusion I cannot avoid, from which all reasonable doubt is gone. People really are like that, literally not noticing things happening right in front of them for some astonishing reason which I cannot help but think is some kind of abnormal mental condition that prevents them from gathering the information their senses deliver and processing it in their brains. That's it- their brains aren't processing that which they observe, therefore they don't understand what they observe. This makes them susceptible to all kinds of false messages, makes them vulnerable to succumbing to "Big Lies", and we've seen this happen throughout history in entire societies, proving that this mental disorder is all too real and undeniable.
Those who don't use their brains when receiving sensory messages about the world around them simply won't know it as it really is.
The more a person demonstrates this mental condition, the more I consider them "leftist". They tend to orient towards believing certain things we today think of as left-wing stuff, like socialism, which has been demonstrated to be unsustainable over time, but they don't know it, actually, for the reason I explained above, so they believe in it despite the reality that it isn't worth it.
