Al-Qaeda's New Strategy: The Lone Jihadist

So far, it's been an observed phenomenon commonly referred to as "personal jihad".

We've seen lone individuals apparently commiting acts of terrorism, apparently jihad.

Regular readers of this blog since its inception will probably recall that I've blogged about lone jihadists.

Well, it's now becoming apparent that lone jihadism is actually Al Qaeda's new strategy.

According to the FoX News, intelligence officials have discovered an online Al Qaeda manual that prescribes that group leaders should training new recruits to operate as smaller cells around the globe.

The manual, called Method for Building the Personality of a Terrorist Mujahid and written by an Islamist forum contributor nicknamed “Shamil al-Baghdadi,” encourages militant followers to stop focusing on pulling off attacks on the scale of 9-11 and to start executing numerous smaller attacks.

If for some reason the mission fails, the Jihadi must not abort, but instead carry on alone, as a one-man cell, the paper quotes New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly as saying while quoting from the manual.

It advocates assassinations by shooting, poisoning and booby-trapping cell phones and computers.

Further, targets are to be prioritised by ranking them into categories such as “high profile,” which represent presidents and prime ministers.

Like one of the terrorism suspects captured in Canada who had reportedly planned to behead the Prime Minister.

Credit card scams and robbing police stations are AQ recommendations for raising cash and weapons. Essentially, lone jihadists are to commit crimes, stealing, defrauding, etc., to support their jihad habit, just like junkies.

This makes me think that AQ is now telling its operatives they have to break laws to support their agenda because AQ is no longer financially capable of supporting them, having their bank accounts frozen, having fundraising organizations and scams shut down, seeing strict anti- terror-funding laws deter folks from supporting terrorists or suspected terrorists.

There's already precedent for lone jihadism. Ahmed Ressam, the so-called "Millennium Bomber" who was, thanks to an ineffective immigration system under the old Liberal administration, in Canada illegally, commiting crimes and actually drawing social assistance to support his agenda of blowing up Los Angeles International Airport. Fortunately, he was apprehended at the border by sharp-eyed border guards.

Kidnapping and public-terrifying hostage slaughtering are also AQ instructions. Imagine... a lone jihadist... on a bus... in Canada. Stabbing, beheading and even cannibalizing an innocent person for no reason at all. Oh, wait... that's happened already, although we have no evidence of a link to Al Qaeda. Now, do keep in mind that the bus beheading/cannibalism, I'm not declaring it an act of a lone jihadist, but what if it was? It does, in fact, remind us that this sort of thing can actually happen anywhere, anytime, like on a bus in Canada. It's as unforeseen as the events of 9/11, after all, and this is the eerie similarity. And the ethnicity and nationality of the would-be lone jihadist wouldn't matter, as we know that AQ has been recruiting non-Arab-looking individuals of all sorts, in a sort of macabre "affirmative action" program, if you will (the mentally-disordered, illogical, irrational Far Left will probably say, "Hey, diversity is good; all diversity is desirable; there must absolutely be as much diversity as possible, no matter how it's achieved, therefore Al Qaeda is good, because they promote it!" Yea, the Far Left will probably believe that having diversity in the terrorist community is a good thing, insanely forgetting or not even caring that they're terrorists, people who want to kill people in the name of dangerous ideology! At least we won't have to worry about annoying, unhelpful charges of "racial profiling" anymore and get on with our job of preventing terrorism, using newer criteria of potential-hostile-entity detection.)

An expert in the linked-here article says that these new AQ instructions will embolden and motivate already-inclined lone jihadists to actually go right ahead and wage jihad.

Scary, isn't it?

What to do... what to do? Are we going to witness an upsurge in apparent examples of lone jihadism and attempts thereat?

Hopefully not; hopefully the authorities charged with detecting and preventing such individuals are watching them closely and will stop them before they can carry out their mission. But, unfortunately, I'm afraid that most of the terrorists will successfully evade all detection and go on to execute their evil plans.

You know, this is a good reason for law-abiding citizens to be allowed to carry concealed handguns. As a deterrence against these lone jihadists we know are everywhere.

Next time some nutcase on a bus pulls out a knife and moves to use it on someone, wouldn't it be useful if just one civilian licenced to carry one pulls out the gun and advises the nutcase to drop the weapon or be shot?

Shouldn't citizens be allowed to protect themselves and others? After all, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the "safety and security of the person". Denying the right to be armed is to deny this Charter right, as, most of the time, the only way to have this right is to be armed, as the police can't be everywhere all the time, unless we start putting undercover armed agents everywhere as the deterrence, like air marshalls on airplanes. But the cost to the taxpayers, the logistics, the opposition from the Far Left and the Far Left mainstream media... much simpler to simply repeal the unconstitutional ban on handguns and allow citizens to have their safety and security guaranteed.
