Men Caught at Heinz Field, Dogs Detect Explosives Scent on Vehicle
Via National Terror Alert
Story here and here.
The men, students at Carnegie-Mellon University, were caught sneaking into Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pa., prior to a football game, supposedly to "shoot a music video".
The reason why they're in custody is that police dogs detected, twice, the scent of explosives on their Lexus vehicle. And because they were trespassing, a criminal offence in and of itself.
The men are being questioned by the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Their apartment has been searched.
My preliminary analysis: it appears that, though the dogs' sniffing of what may or may not be some kind of scent like that of explosives or components of explosives on the vehicle, which is cause for serious concern, these active, well-performing students have made a really, really stupid mistake. Guess they're not very well-informed about the terrorism threat and security reality with respect to stadiums. Probably will be simply prosecuted for their criminal trespass at the stadium or released. Bail is a million bucks, though!
Bet they're mortally embarrassed. Let this be a lesson to all who're thinking of doing something similarly stupid in the post-9/11 era. One just might become a suspected jihadist, even if just having the biggest brainfart of one's life!
Don't be a moron. Don't draw suspicions upon yourself with stupid behavior!
Of course, we still don't have all the facts of the case, which is why I call this a "preliminary analysis".
