Successful immigrant and Governor of California Arnold SchwarzeneggerCalifornia Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says some Mexican immigrants "try to stay Mexican" when they come to the United States and he urged them to assimilate into the fabric of American society.
Recalling his own experience emigrating from his native Austria, the Republican governor said Thursday that immigrants should learn English and U.S. history and "make an effort to become part of America."

The governor's comments, after an event in Los Angeles, echoed an opinion piece he wrote in September, which was published in the Los Angeles Times. He was critical of protesters who waved Mexican flags at immigration rallies.
"The message that sends is that you do not want to learn our language or our culture," Schwarzenegger wrote.
I'm in complete agreement with Arnold.
In Mexico, it's either assimilate as completely as possible or be discriminated against. Even if an immigrant to Mexico assimilates fully, unless they're a citizen, they don't have equal rights. Therefore, Mexicans and ignorant American moonbats who complain about statements such as Arnold's don't have a leg to stand on. Mexicans, particularly... for where they come from, I wouldn't be particularly accepted as a non-Mexican. So I'm not impressed with the attitude of the illegals and the America-hating immigrants. I much prefer immigrants who go out of their way to become American in as many ways as possible, to become equal to native-born Americans, who themselves have to be as American as possible.
Of course, I also prefer immigrants to Canada to learn to fit in as much as possible to Canadian culture. "Multiculturalism" is merely a left-wing dogma which leftists and the MSM wish to impose on the country, not to "enrich", as they claim, but to water down Canada's "Canadianness". In fact, as do American leftist moonbats, I'm convinced that Canadian leftist moonbats actually hate Canada and want to transform it according to radical left-wing extremist doctrines. This is why the left is always trying to force radical stuff on the nations of the Free world. They don't like the nature of the Free World, therefore they want to destroy the unique characters of Free World nations via "multiculturalism".
Look... I was born here. I'm a citizen. This is my country. I obey the laws, I go out of my way to fit in. Why shouldn't immigrants also obey the laws and follow the norms? Why should they be exempt?
Don't get me wrong... I don't advocate any kind of discouragement of peoples' heritage or whatever... but beyond that personal stuff, the fact is that this is Canada, with its own identity and way of life. If people don't like this country, then they shouldn't come in to impose their old country's ways on this one. They, after all, wouldn't tolerate me doing it to their country.
Besides, very importantly, "multiculturalism" has been clearly used as a cover for terrorists to operate in various Free World nations. Multiculturalism is not in the interest of the Free World... it must become a melting-pot. It must be based on freedom, democracy, the rule of law (as put in place by the peoples' elected representatives) and human rights. Not things such as the barbaric, inhumane "Sharia law" or other systems from non-Free World nations from which immigrants come as they want something "better". So if they want to come here, they must accept the way it is here.
It's only fair, for the left has been forcing their own dogmas on the Free World, transforming it according to their own "values", sugarcoated with warm and fuzzy words, ultimately paving the road for our enemies to take advantage of such nonsense to harm our native citizenry.
I say: let's be Canadian in Canada, American in America, Dutch in the Netherlands, Chinese in China, Iranian in Iran, Saudi in Saudi Arabia... we don't go to others' nations and get to be ourselves... we're forbidden, so if they come here, who are they to criticize us for demanding reasonable assimilation?!
Besides, we're more open, more tolerant, more accepting of differences than the countries they're leaving. This is an indubitable fact!
And, as I always say, I take no criticism from leftist moonbats. They'll call me names rather than prove that I'm wrong, which is impossible, for the reasonable person knows that what I have said above is the plain truth.
