Stay in Iraq: Winston Churchill III

Story here. h/t: NationalNewswatch.com (be sure to check that news aggregator site several times a day. At least once a day at the minumum! It's the best there is!)

The grandson of Sir Winston Churchill will tell an Ottawa audience tonight that a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq would be disastrous for the Middle East and for western nations.

That grandson, also named Winston Churchill, will deliver his address, titled "Democracy and Freedom Under Threat," at the annual forum of Kollel of Ottawa, a centre for advanced Torah study.

"If the Americans admit failure and withdraw soon from Iraq, I see the writing on the wall," Mr. Churchill told the Citizen in a phone call from Britain. "Our friends and allies in the region, as well as nations throughout the western world, including North America, will end up paying a terrible price."

(...)

He went on to say that the insurgent forces now fighting in Iraq would "establish in that country the base that they've been denied in Afghanistan, with an additional advantage in having access to one of the largest oil reserves in the world, easily able to fund bigger and better acts of terror across the world."

Read it all.

Mr. Churchill has other advice, including criticism of the Free World for having allowed their armed forces to dwindle in number and strength following the fall of the Soviet Union. He also recommends training soldiers in how to maintain peace following victory over tyrannical regimes.

I don't know about everyone, but something tells me that Winston Churchill is right. Again.

I'd predict he'd also recommend staying in Afghanistan for essentially the same reasons.

Giving up would lead to evildoers retaking those nations and rebuilding the tyrannies, oppressing the people, and preparing for another 9/11 and worse. Only a moron would deny this.

Remember, Germany lost World War I. But since the Allies left Germany alone after that, the Germans morphed into the Nazis and nearly won the second time around. And remember that the Allies occupied Germany following the defeat of the Nazis, bringing them to justice and preventing them from rising again.

Same as with Japan, following the defeat of Hirohito's Imperialists..

It's the same thing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The historical parallels and precedents are sound!
