Hard to dismiss these scientists. To dismiss them is to also dismiss both the University of Chicago (where, incidentally, the IPCC theory-believing President-Elect Barack Obama was a professor) and the NOAA. You want to do that, Chicken Little, go ahead. I know you'll try.
Not so fast, says a study released earlier this year by Gilbert Compo and Prashant Sardeshmukh of the University of Colorado and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and presented in the scientific journal Climate Dynamics.
(...)The study's conclusions were based on models of land surface temperatures from 1960 to 2006. The scientists forced the models to project temperatures accounting for only the known rise in oceanic heat levels from that time and negating any effect of an increase in man-made greenhouse gases.
"The recent worldwide land warming has occurred largely in response to a worldwide warming of the oceans," concludes the study's abstract, "rather than as a direct response to increasing greenhouse gases (GHGs) over land."
The study continues, "Atmospheric model simulations of the last half-century with prescribed observed ocean temperature changes, but without prescribed GHG changes, account for most of the land warming."
You know, I personally live very close to the Bay of Fundy and can confirm that oceanic temperatures do make a significant difference in air temperature. This is known to be the exact reason why my area tends to be warmer in winter as well as cooler in summer compared to further-inland areas. So it should be no stretch to logically theorize that if the oceans warm up for some reason, like, say, due to the sun, undersea volcanic activity, etc... then global temperatures would predictably be higher as well. After all, it is known that water bodies' temperatures do affect the ambient air temperature.
It seems to me that the IPCC et al (Gore) only want to push the discredited dogma that it's just human activity/energy consumption that causes higher temperatures... and "climate change". It seems that they have a dishonest agenda... motivated, obviously, by the almighty buck.
The enviro-extremists say that climate change is already happening. I don't see any at all. Do you see any? What do they think we are, going to believe them when we can see with our very eyes that they're wrong?
